Who said you can only make water kefir with water kefir grains? Brew your own homemade fruit soda by adding the water kefir grains to pure fruit juice. Our favorite is grape juice, but we also loved using some fresh apple or pear juice. It tastes just like cider! The longer you leave the grains ferment the juice, the less sweet the drink will be (and it will also contain more probiotic goodies). For some extra fizz, I filter out the water kefir grains, fill the bottles with the fermented juice and let the bottles sit 24h on the counter before I put them in the fridge.
